The job market and your credit report

Your credit report can and will be used by employers as a background check. The majority of employers required a credit check as part of the employment process. Also, the larger the company the more likely they will ask for a credit check.
Why do employers request a credit report? For most is a method to determine your overall trustworthiness. You will be handling business for them and if you can manage yourself what makes you think they will think you will be able to manage their business. Also, it helps them reduce the risk of a lawsuit due to negligent hiring.
If a employer is requesting your credit report, they must due so be getting your written permission. Also, they must provide you with a copy of the report. This is standard practice. An employer can’t check your credit without your permission.
Also, they don’t receive the standard credit report. They get one that is for employment purposes. This will not include your credit score. Your credit score used for lending and is not needed by employers.
The best thing to do is to check your credit report before you start applying for a job. Know what they will see if they request a credit check. Also, review your credit report to make sure your report is accurate. Your accounts are not always right and might report errors which should be removed.
